Male Newcomer of the Year
Malik Abraham: Abraham started his first go-around at Mossy Creek strong. The guard from Snellville, Ga., is fourth on the team in scoring through the first half of the year. Abraham is averaging 12.1 points per game and has made an immediate impact as a three-point marksman. The sophomore has knocked down multiple threes in seven games this year. He has a pair of 21-point games, against Southern Wesleyan and Catawba. He ranks in the top 10 in the SAC in threes made per game.
Shaun Jones: Jones has been a double-double machine for Carson-Newman in the first half of the season. The Valdosta State transfer ranks 12th in the country with his five double-doubles. He is one away from matching Carson Brooks' and Steve Williams' single-season school record of six. Jones went off for a career-high 26 points against #6 Lincoln Memorial in the Eagles' 111-109 OT win. He became the first Eagle with 15 rebounds in a game in a decade when he snagged that number against Johnson C. Smith. He also matched Carson Brooks and Queens' Sean Morgan for the SAC record for most field goals made in a game without missing by going 12-for-12 from the field at Newberry.
Jonathan King: King averaged 43.4 yards per punt in his first year in an Eagle jersey. The junior transfer ranked second in the SAC with that number. He set a school record with an 82-yard kick against North Greenville. He also had a 73-yard punt against Limestone which tied Dallas Cowboys punter Chris Jones for the second longest punt in C-N history. King had 12 kicks of 50 yards or longer on the year.
