For the last two weeks, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department has been debuting the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester. These are the fall nominees for Female Athlete of the Year.
The fourth annual Frosty Awards will take place in April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Female Athlete of the Year
Lauren Wade: The Northern Ireland native concluded her first year in Mossy Creek at the top of the national leaderboard in points per game, with an average of an even three. She also finished the year averaging 1.18 goals per game and 0.65 assists, both of which placed her third in Division II. She piled up 20 goals, the country's seventh highest total, and 51 points, which ranked sixth. Her 11 assists put her 11th in the nation. Wade's (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) 51 points are the third-most in a season in program history and her 20 goals tie her for fifth. Her year also included a five-goal performance against USC-Aiken on Sept. 12th, which stands as the second-most goals in a game in Division II this season. She added two assists in that match, giving her 12 points, the second-highest total in a game in 2016.
Julianne Herrity: Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) had a second straight excellent season, putting up 18 goals and 43 points, both the SAC's second most, and seven assists. Her goal total ranks as the eighth most in Division II and her 43 points put her in the 11th spot. The senior found the back of the net more than once in a game six times, including a hat trick against Francis Marion on Sept. 10th. She also tallied one of the two C-N goals against Wingate on Sept. 6th in the SAC title game, which the Eagles won 2-1 to capture their second consecutive conference championship.
Jackie Burns: Burns (Cookstown, Northern Ireland) put together a season in which she rewrote the program and conference record book. She totaled 14 shutouts, a new record for both Carson-Newman and the South Atlantic Conference. She had a streak of five consecutive shutouts from Oct. 22nd to Nov. 4th. Burns also posted a goals-against average of 0.63, a new program best. The freshman keeper finished tied fourth in the league in goals allowed with 14 and put up a save percentage of .816, also tied for fourth.
Elizabeth England: A junior a Carson-Newman, England is currently tied for the fifth-best stroke average in the SAC at 77.2. England (Oakland, Tenn.) shot a score of a one-over, 143 at the King University Invitational to capture the tournament individual title while helping her team capture the overall championship. She finished the event by shooting a second round 68 to tie a SAC record and secure her victory.
Margaret Stansberry: Following a freshman year in which she was named an All-American, Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) has continued to perform well as a sophomore. During her team's visit to Cincinnati for the Bearcats Midseason Invitational, Stansberry set a Carson-Newman record in the 200 individual medley and was a member of a 200 freestyle relay team and a 400 medley relay team that both posted a new school bests. She also put a National B qualifying time in the 200 free. During the team's three dual meets, she picked up five individual wins and was a member of three victorious relay teams. She was selected as the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week of Oct. 31st- Nov. 6th.
Maggie Melhorn: Melhorn's (Knoxville, Tenn.) season has included a few new entries into the C-N record book, as she bested the school's previous record times in the 100 IM and the 200 breaststroke and also helped set a new C-N best in the 400 medley relay. The junior also has a national B qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke to her credit and has won five individual races so far this season. She's also helped three Carson-Newman relay teams capture first place.
Taylor Lowe: The honorable mention All-SAC pick Lowe is the first libero for C-N to be placed on an all-conference squad since the program's leader in digs, Blaire Young, was a first-team pick in 2005. The Franklin, Tenn. native closed out her career with a total of 2,261 digs to finish second behind Young's 2,550 mark from 2002-05. With 708 scoops in 2016, Lowe accumulated the fourth-most in a single season in school history. She finished the 2016 regular season seventh in country and tops in the league with 6.05 digs per set and second in the nation with 708 total digs behind Bellarmine's Jordyn Kuchenbrod's 788.
Mika Wester: In her first season at Mossy Creek, the forward is averaging 17.5 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per night ranking fourth and ninth respectively in the league. During a stretch of four straight 20-point outings, Wester posted 25 points against King (Tenn.) and 28 versus No. 20 Lincoln Memorial to become the first Lady Eagle since Tatum Burstrom in Dec. 2013 to have back-to-back 25-point nights. The four successive 20-point evenings are the most by a C-N player since at least the 2002-03 season.
