Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Female Newcomer of the Year. Thursday, we'll unveil the candidates for Male Newcomer of the Year. 

The fifth annual Frosty Awards will take place in early May and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Female Newcomer of the Year:

Morgan Ballard

In her first season with the Eagles, Ballard was tabbed first-team All-South Atlantic Conference, second-team All-Southeast Region by D2CCA and honorable mention all-region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The Weaverville, N.C. native earned a spot on the SAC All-Tournament Team and the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament unit. In 118 sets, Ballard posted the best digs per set in program history with 6.94 besting Blaire Young's 6.79 mark in 2004 as one of three players in the history of the school to finish with at least six scoops per set. The sophomore racked up 819 total digs to finish behind Young's 856 from 2004 for second-most in the 29 years of volleyball at Carson-Newman. She ranked third in the nation in digs per set and second in total scoops.

Catarina Realista

The junior midfield transfer out of Libson, Portugal recorded 11 points in 2017 with three goals and five assists helping C-N collect the regular season and tournament championships. The year was steady for Realista who started in 19 games for the Eagles and guiding the team to the national title game with a program record 21 wins.

Kayla Marosites

In her first season in the Orange and Blue, Marosites is averaging a double-double at 11.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game Posting five offensive rebounds per game, she is second in the country while her overall rebounding total is good for one of the top 40 slots nationally. Four times in 2017, Kayla has notched a double-double with her top effort coming against 15th-ranked Lander on Nov. 11. In a three-point win, she racked up 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting with 10 rebounds

Kelci Marosites

As one of Mike Mincey's first options off of the bench for No. 6 Carson-Newman, Kelci is scoring just under eight points per game with three rebounds and nearly two assists per game. The sophomore has four games in double figures including a season-high 17 points against Coker on Dec. 9 making five triples in the game. The East Tennessee State transfer posted 13 points going 4-for-5 from the field in a win over 15th-ranked Lander on Nov. 11.
