From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester. These are the fall nominees for Male Performance of the Year. New Year's Even, we'll unveil the candidates for Female Performance of the Year.
The fifth annual Frosty Awards will take place in early May and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Male Performance of the Year:
Derrick Evans @ L-R: Derrick Evans matched Carson-Newman's single-game rushing touchdown record on a cold, dreary rainy day in Hickory, N.C. at Lenoir-Rhyne. Evans pounded the ball into the end zone five times, on rushes of 76, five, two, one and one yards to get to the school record. He matched Buck Wakefield in 2009 against Tusculum and Kenneth Tyson from 1987 against Elon for top overall mark. Evans was also effective through the air, he completed 12-of-15 passes for 149 yards. He tallied his second career 100-yard day on the ground with 19 rushes for 108 yards.
Luke Greer, Region Championships: The United Kingdom native became the first Eagle runner since 2005 to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships. The junior finished in fourth place at the Southeast Regional meet, with a 10-kilometer time of 31:35.44. Greer was one of two South Atlantic Conference runners to qualify individually for the Division II National Cross Country Championships.
Dez Ferrell @ Limestone: Desmond Fairell earned South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors following his defensive efforts against the Limestone Saints. Fairell earns the award following a seven-tackle performance in the Eagles' 31-20 win over Limestone that also featured a pair of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Both turnovers that Fairell generated were crucial to preserving Carson-Newman's lead. He grabbed his second interception of the season and the sixth pick of his career with 2:14 left in the third quarter and the Eagles up one. Fairell ripped in an Ivan Corbin pass at the C-N 10 and returned it deep into Saints territory. His fumble recovery was arguably the more impressive play and without question sealed the win for the Eagles. Jerko'ya Patton rushed for a first down for the Saints, but Fairell locked him up as he moved to the right sideline and ripped the ball away from him. Fairell became the third Carson-Newman football player to force a fumble, recover a fumble and pick off a pass in one game in the last decade. He joins teammate Sha'Heem Stupart, who did it against Shorter in 2015, and Nathan Jones, who pulled off the feat against Brevard in 2010.
Tobias Solem Karlsen vs. LMU: The No. 25 Eagles picked up their sixth straight shutout win on a night that was highlighted by Tobias Solem Karlsen's second hat trick of the season, making him the only C-N player to score multiple hat tricks in one season. The defender/forward started the onslaught late in the first half after Jonny Le Quesne settled the ball before passing off to Karlsen who sent a skidding shot past a diving Caleb Cothrin to find the backright of the net. In the 56th minute of play, a quick pass from Will Sainsbury-Logan into a mass of players ended up in the possession of Karlsen yet again, allowing him to set up a striker from atop the 18-yard box that made a sailing curve over a leaping Cothrin to put the Eagles up 2-0. In the final six minutes of play, Tom Read went down in the box, setting up an Eagles' penalty kick. Karlsen lined up and sent a shot right into the middle of the net, past Cothrin who slid to his right, to solidify the win and the trifecta.
Sha'heem Stupart @ Limestone: Sha'Heem Stupart reset a career high and matched the 17th most tackles in a single-game in Carson-Newman football history by making 16 stops against the Limestone Saints. He had eight solo stops on the day and eight assists with a sack and a tackle for loss. Stupart and the Eagles limited the Saints to 348 yards of total offense in the 31-20 victory.
Twan Verweij vs. No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne: The fourth clean sheet of the Eagles 2017 season came in a 1-0 victory over the fifth-ranked Bears. Goalkeeper Twan Verweij was just as dominant as the defensive unit ahead of him in the game, saving both of the shots on goal that came his way. In the 49th minute an Emil Tansinda shot from the right post caused Verweij to make a leaping save, the 6-foot-6 keeper using his height to send the ball flying over the net. Nearly 10 minutes later, an L-R corner kick was headed toward him before a punching effort forced the ball back out of the 18-yard box.
Jake Headrick at the McDonough Cup: Through the first day of competition, Jake Headrick led the No. 16 Eagles with a one-under round of 71 in the morning to start at third on the leaderboard before an afternoon round of 71 placed him at fourth in the field, with an even par total of 144. In the second day of competition, the junior shot a -5 round of 67 to move him to the top of the leaderboard with a 211 total, notching his second career tournament win. His jump helped the Eagles move from eighth on the first day to grab a third-place finish at the event, marking C-N's best finish at the McDonough Cup.
Luke Greer, Asheville: Greer picked up his second victory of the season at the Asheville Cross Country Invitational. The junior finished the four-mile course in a time 20:15.91 and competed against five Division I schools.
Charles Clark v. Coker: Charles Clark saw the basketball hoop as wide as the Gulf of Mexico against the Coker Cobras. After missing his first three shot attempts, Clark went off against the Cobras. He knocked down 11 of his next 12 shots en route to his third best career scoring effort. The senior matched a career high (that he set against Coker last year) by knocking down seven triples on nine attempts. The Murfreesboro, Tenn.-native was mind-numbingly efficient. He was 12-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the stripe.
