From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester. These are the fall nominees for Female Athlete of the Year. Tuesday, we'll unveil the candidates for Male Athlete of the Year.
The fifth annual Frosty Awards will take place in early May and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Female Athlete of the Year:
Haris Price
The leading scorer on the nation's second most potent offense, Price is posting 17.6 points per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor, a mark that ranks top five in the league. Twice in 2017, the junior has been named the SAC Player of the Week. The Gatlinburg, Tenn. native is second in the country with 39 steals on the year while ranking 13th with 61 assists. She has led the team in scoring seven times with a double-digit scoring effort in 12 straight games. At North Georgia on Nov. 17, Price registered a career-high 29 points going 13-for-14 from the charity stripe in a 94-90 win.
Maggie Melhorn
Melhorn topped all Individual swimmers recording the highest point total over a two-day period in the NSU Shark Invitational on Oct. 14. The Knoxville, Tenn. native took on some of the best teams in the nation, which included the fastest time in the nation in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.09. Melhorn was also a piece of the three relay teams to win events over the weekend against Wingate, Nova Southeastern, University of Indianapolis, Florida Southern, West Florida, and Keiser University, who are some of the top teams in all of Division II. She a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, topping 53 other swimmers in the event with a time of 2:06.12. She defeated last year's runner-up at nationals in Alex Divelbiss from Wingate
Jackie Burns
The sophomore slump did not exist for Burns who is already the winningest goalkeeper in C-N women's soccer history after claiming 21 victories in 2017. The Cookstown, Northern Ireland native was a key piece in the Eagles run to the National Championship as she recorded 14 clean sheets on the season, 11 of which were solo. Burns holds the career-record with 25 shutouts. She claimed All-SAC honors for the second-consecutive year, and cracked United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-Region. She also checked in on the D2CCA All-Region Second-Team. Burns allowed just 10 goals all season, including only have trailed for a total of 42:44 this season out of a possible 2112 minutes. Their six clean sheets in a row from Oct. 7 to Oct. 31 notched a new program record. She ended the year with a goals against average of .44, 19 points better than the record she set in 2016. Burns also added single season record in save percentage at .889.
Lauren Wade
The two-time All-American for both the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA teams, recorded another breakout 2017 year with 49 points which was good for third in the nation. Her 18 goals led the team and 13 assists tied for the team lead. The native of Coleraine, Northern Ireland also notched Southeast Region Player of the Year for the second-straight year, as well as First-Team All-Region in consecutive seasons. Wade was named to South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons, also collecting first-team All-SAC honors, 2017 All-Tournament Team, and Tournament MVP. She also collected the team's lone goal in the National Championship and was named to the NCAA's All-Tourney team. Among other career awards, Wade tied the single season record for seven game winning goals, and broke the single season record of most shots on goal with 81. Her CoSIDA Academic All-American award marked her 13th award since the end of the regular season, shattering the previous mark of seven in which she set in 2016.
Morgan Ballard
In her first season with the Eagles, Ballard was tabbed first-team All-South Atlantic Conference, second-team All-Southeast Region by D2CCA and honorable mention all-region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The Weaverville, N.C. native earned a spot on the SAC All-Tournament Team and the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament unit. In 118 sets, Ballard posted the best digs per set in program history with 6.94 besting Blaire Young's 6.79 mark in 2004 as one of three players in the history of the school to finish with at least six scoops per set. The sophomore racked up 819 total digs to finish behind Young's 856 from 2004 for second-most in the 29 years of volleyball at Carson-Newman. She ranked third in the nation in digs per set and second in total scoops.
Magda Mosengo
Mosengo had the most prolific NCAA tournament run in C-N Women's Soccer history collecting eight goals and two assists in five games to close out the year. Seven of those goals came in the first three home games of the tournament, etching the London, England native in the record books as the career-leading scorer in the NCAA Championships. The previous record of six goals occurred in a three-year span from 2004-06. Mosengo pushed Wade for the team lead in goals collecting 17 on the year and tying the senior with 13 assists. She collected her first postseason award as she was named to the 2017 All-SAC Second-Team. Mosengo's strike in overtime in the SAC Semifinal over Tusculum helped propel the junior to the All-Tournament Team. She was also named to the 2017 NCAA Championships All-Tournament team.
Helen Seed
Seed wrapped up an incredible four-year career at Carson-Newman playing in all 23 of the team's games in 2017. The native of Preston, England will finish with the fourth-most minutes played in the history of the women's soccer program at Carson-Newman tallying 6821. She started in 77 games over her four-career which is also good for third-best all-time. Her 23 games started in 2017 tie a program record for a single season, recording 2079 minutes in the process for fifth all-time. The defender recorded a career-high four goals and collected one assist. She was an integral part of an Eagles defense who recorded 40 shutouts in her tenure and 14 this past season. The team only allowed 12 goals all season long, including only have trailed for a total of 42:44 this season out of a possible 2112 minutes. Their six clean sheets in a row from Oct. 7 to Oct. 31 notched a new program record. Seed was a two-time All-American selection to both the D2CCA and USC teams. She was a first-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection, as well as a First-Team All-Southeast Region in both the USC and D2CCA. The list of awards included her third-career selection to the SAC All-Tournament Team helping the Eagles collect their third-straigth conference crown.
Mika Wester
Picking up where she left off as a sophomore, Wester is scoring 17.4 points per game for a top-10 Lady Eagle unit. Add 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game and the forward is one of the most complete players in the region. Her 93 made field goals is top 10 in the country while she is shooting 57 percent from the field to rank in the top 40 nationally. Wester ranks in the top 10 in the conference in assists, blocks and free-throw percentage. The SAC Player of the Week on Nov. 14 scored 50 points in the first two contests of the year including 28 against 15th-ranked Lander. In 13 games, the junior has scored at least 13 points with four outings of 20 points or better. Wester is a tad over 200 points away from becoming the 20th member of the 1,000-point club for Carson-Newman, a mark she is on pace to reach in 2017.
Marnie Streeter
Earning a spot on the South Atlantic Conference's second team, Streeter finished second in the league with 408 total kills while ranking third with 3.74 kills per set and 4.14 points per game. Her 3.74 kills per set average, good for a tie for fourth in school history with Jenna Rust from 2004. The outside hitter was named the SAC Player of the Week twice this season on Sept. 12 and Oct. 30. n. 2015 was the last time an Eagle was named the league's player of the week more than once when Molly Locke was thrice lauded and Sara Fairley garnered recognition twice. The Goldvein, Va. native finished the season with 14 straight matches in double figures and had nine double-doubles on the year.
Margaret Stansberry
The senior Stansberry totaled two first-place finishes at the 2017 NSU Shark Invitational. Stansberry held the best time in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.62, which was the third-fastest time in the country. She also collected her second individual event win in the invitational in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.85. The native of Knoxville, Tenn. also played a part in three C-N victories in relay events throughout the three session, two-day invitational. She was one of the members of the relay teams that won the 400-yard medley, the 200-yard medley, and the 400-yard freestyle. For her performance, Stansberry was named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 16. Stansberry and C-N swim faced off against Wingate, Nova Southeastern, University of Indianapolis, Florida Southern, West Florida, and Keiser University, who are some of the top teams in all of Division II
Elizabeth England: As the lone senior on the team, England participated in all four events that the Eagles had on the fall docket. She started the season off with a win at the King Invitational, leading the pack through both days of competition en route to securing her second straight title at the event with a +4 total of 146. Aside from her win, she placed in the top-20 of the final three events of the fall, her lowest finish being at a tie for 14th at the Christian Brothers University Super Regional Preview. She posted a 77.8 stroke average in the fall.
