Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Female Newcomer of the Year. Friday, we'll unveil the candidates for Male Newcomer of the Year. 

The sixth annual Frosty Awards will take place in late April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

FEMALE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Kennedy Rankin (Soccer): The Alderson-Broaddus transfer started in 16 games during the 2018 campaign and appeared in all 20 of the team's games collecting four goals and two assists as a midfielder. Her first goal as an Eagle came on a rocket against Lee University on Sept. 8, following up the goal with her second of the game, a walk-off winner in overtime.

Joy Rhodes (Volleyball): The Gardner-Webb transfer saw time in 21 of the team's 29 matches playing as a six-rotation outside at times and finishing off the year in the middle. Rhodes averaged 1.68 kills per set and racked up 10.5 total rejections on the season. The Youngsville, N.C. native had three matches with at least 10 kills including a career-high 14 in a four-set effort against Barton on Sept. 7. She piled up her lone double-double of the season on Sept. 25 at Anderson with 11 kills and 15 digs. Rhodes became a blocking machine down the stretch with 7.5 rejections over her final three matches of the year.
