Athletic Communications rakes in fourth most awards in CoSIDA Publications and Digital Design Contest

COSIDA Results 

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Carson-Newman's athletic communications team tallied 12 national awards for a second straight year at the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Publications and Digital Design Contest, finishing with the fourth most accolades in the country among all schools in all NCAA divisions. 

Kansas State University led the nation with 18 total awards with Washburn following with 16 to lead all non-FBS programs.  West Virginia recorded 15 honors before Carson-Newman's 12.  

Included in the haul is a best in nation award for Danielle Whaley for her men's soccer media guide cover, as well as second-place finishes for Adam Cavalier for football gameday programs and men's basketball game notes.  

"I cannot say enough about what Danielle, Michael as well as Justin Franklin, Richard Martin and Brian White pulled off," Cavalier said. "These results re-affirm what I have known for a long, long time - Danielle and Michael are the best in the country at what they do. They set the pace for this field. It's a joy to watch their continued growth and development in everything they do. I've always wanted to surround myself with 10s, and it's truly a blessing to get to be around a couple of 20s every day." 

Cavalier was recognized eight times, while Whaley brought home three awards. Assistant Director for Athletic Communications Michael Wottreng was recognized for his video feature on Carson-Newman football's Colt Sinor, a testicular cancer survivor.  

Whaley defended her crown for having the best men's soccer media guide cover in the nation, and also picked up recognition for her cinementic recap of Carson-Newman volleyball's win over Lincoln Memorial and for her infographic on Thay Silva's national player of the week honor.  

Cavalier picked up a pair of third-place finishes for his men's basketball postgame infographic, his softball player of the week infographic, his football poster and his women's basketball hype video.  The Marshall University product doubled up his design awards this season to move to 16 for his career, to go along with two Fred Stabley writing awards from the organization. 

Wottreng brought his career publications and digital design awards total to 13.

These accolades bring the department's overall national awards total to 47 from CoSIDA in the last six years.  The 12 honors are the most in a single year by the athletic communications office, matching last year's total.
