Hickory, N.C. – The Carson-Newman men and women's track and field teams travelled to Hickory, NC to compete in the Food Lion SAC Track and Field Championships this weekend.
In day one of the two-day Championship meet, athletes competed in the preliminary races of their events and finals for select field events. Carson-Newman had three athletes finish in the top three places in their respective events.
"Our freshmen long jumpers sweeping the event was an excellent way to start off the conference championship," Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs said. "I was excited to see our athletes meet the challenge of the weather and the event. Saturday promises to be an exciting day."
Freshman Tiana Mills took first place in the women's long jump with a mark of 17' 6.75". Junior Jessica Azor earned first-place in the women's high jump after her leap of 5' 0.25".
From the men's end, Freshman TJ Davis placed first once again in the men's high jump with a 22' 7.75" mark. Freshman Jason Williams followed close behind in second-place with a 21' 10" mark.
Junior Randall Freeman finished in second-place in the men's javelin throw with a 46.48m throw.
The women's team sits in fifth place, while the men are in fourth for the team championship.
The Eagles compete in the event finals tomorrow for day two of the Food Lion SAC Track and Field Championships.
