Chapman leads Eagles at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, NC. – The Carson-Newman men and women's track and field teams competed in the Mountaineer Open for their third indoor meet of the season.

Sophomore Kristin Chapman led the pack in the women's high jump for the second week in a row earning first-place after a leap of 1.66m (5'05.25"). Freshman Samantha Gudger (Bristol, Tenn.) followed close behind in third, with a 1.61m (5'03.25") jump.

Sophomore Tianna Mills earned second-place with a 5.51m (18'01") leap into the sand pit in the women's long jump. Gudger made a mark of 5.47m (17'11.5"), giving her fourth-place.

Sophomore TJ Davis finished in second in the men's long jump, with a mark of 6.97m (22'10.5"). Freshman Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) took fifth-place after a leap of 6.60m (21'08"). Senior Randall Freeman (Ooltewah, Tenn.) finished in seventh-place in the men's shot put.

In women's sprinting events, freshman Gabrielle Fewell (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished in fourth-place in 55-meter hurdles, with a time of 9.36. Sophomore Lindsey Franklin followed close behind in fifth. Shauntae Miller finished in eighth-place in finals of the women's 400-meter dash.

Senior Darius Childs dominated in men's sprinting events, placing third in the men's 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.87 seconds. Christian Robinson finished in eighth-place in finals, with a time of 8.29 seconds. 

The Carson-Newman women finished in fourth-place overall at Appalachian State with 40 points. The men finished in sixth-place, with 21 points.

The Eagles head back to Johnson City, TN next weekend for the East Tennessee Invitational.
