Eagles look to end indoor season on a high note at Sewanee

Tori Gaul Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After a weekend off due to unsafe travel conditions, the Carson-Newman men and women's track and field teams travel to Sewanee: The University of the South, Saturday.

In their most recent meet, also at Sewanee, the Eagles finished as the top-two teams overall. The women finished in second-place, and the men in first.

Several athletes, including freshman Tori Gaul (Salisbury, NC), found themselves moving up in regional rankings. Gaul moved to seventh-place in the women's 400-meter dash, and is also ranked in the women's pole vault.

When asked how she has had continual success so far this year Gaul explained, "Coach Parrilla has worked with me a lot during cross country season, and built up a lot of my endurance to come out in track really strong."

In high school, Gaul only participated one season of track and field, and has come into her college career with the up-most confidence as a freshman.

"If your only goal is to win, you're only going to be as good as the second best person," Gaul explained. "My goal is to always go in and be the best me that I can be and not worry about everyone else."

The freshman, multi-event athlete plans to finish her first indoor season on a high note, and is ready to compete in the track and field outdoor season.

With a new pole vault coach, and an opportunity to compete in her best event, the women's 400 hurdles, Gaul says she has high hopes that everything will come together.

The Eagles travel back to Sewanee, NC for the Sewanee Indoor meet. Full results and a recap of the day's events will be available on cneagles.com and on our Twitter account, @cnathletics.
