Davis, Lockett tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field's TJ Davis and softball's Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

TJ Davis picked up two first-place finishes and a second-place award at the Sewanee Tigers Track & Field Indoor Invitational at the Fowler Center in Sewanee, Tenn. last Saturday.

The sophomore recorded wins in the Long and Triple Jump and finished second in the 55m Dash. In the Long Jump, Davis jumped a distance of 7.09 meters in the Finals. He then followed up in the Triple Jump with a winning jump of 13.80 meters that bested a C-N teammate by just under one meter.

In the 55m Dash, Davis finished second after running the race in 6.65 seconds, which placed him four-hundredths of a second behind teammate Jason Williams.

Lockett went 7-for-8 at the plate as the Eagles collected four straight shutout wins over the weekend against Lees-McRae (twice), Indiana Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins.

Of her seven hits, five were for extra bases.  She tallied a couple triples and a trio of doubles while driving in two runs.

Lockett is riding a five-game hitting streak.  She has multiple hits in all those games.

Lockett also won SAC player of the week honors after she broke three school records following the Eagles' wins over Bluefield State.  She joins Kelli Hensley, Sara Kelley and Brittany Hefner has multiple award winners for the Eagles over the last three seasons.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
