Eagles prepare to battle the weather at the Rome Shorter Invitational

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men and women's track and field teams travel to Rome, Ga. where for the second straight year, the cold weather will be a challenge the Eagles are forced to face.

"We work hard to be a team who seeks to look inward for strength instead of outside circumstances," coach David Needs explained.

At the 2014 Shorter Invitational/Rome Relays, wind, rain and injuries were not a match for the Eagles, who had countless athletes finish in the top-three places in their respective events despite the conditions.

"If we practice hard regardless of the circumstances, [and] train hard regardless of the circumstances then we will compete regardless of the circumstances," Needs said.

Many behind the scenes coaches like Kristin Campbell, Mark and Tyler Stepp, and recently added to the staff, Roman Botcharnikov, each add their own experience and knowledge to the team.

"We are expecting big things from all of our athletes," Needs said. "We have challenged them all week to raise their performance level [and] the weather should add to the challenge."

The Eagles travel to the Peach State Saturday for the Shorter invitational. Stay tuned to cneagles.com for recap and results following the meet.
