Jurjevic, Gaul tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field's Tori Gaul (Salisbury, N.C.) and baseball's Evan Jurjevic (New Carlisle, Ind.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Jurjevic ranks fourth in the South Atlantic Conference in batting average at .403 and now leads the league with 16 doubles after another big week on the diamond.

The New Carlisle, Ind. native tallied three more multi-hit games bringing his total to a team-high 16 on the year going 8-for-16 (.500) with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.

His best day came in the second game of the Lenoir-Rhyne series where he went 3-for-4 bringing his season total to nine three-hit games this season. The senior first basemen has reached base safely in 29 consecutive games.

Gaul recorded two first-place finishes at the Shorter Invitational last weekend with top finishes in the pole vault with a vault of 3.04m and 400m hurdles after running the race in 1:03.93. In each event, Gaul set or reset a Carson-Newman school record.

In the pole vault, the freshman bested the record that was set in 2012. Her vault was also three-tenths of a meter higher than any of her closest competitors.

The Salisbury, N.C.-native reset her own school record in the 400m hurdles that she initially set two weeks ago at the PowerSox Invitational. Her time of 1:03.93 was three seconds quicker than the previous C-N record. She bested the second-place finisher by nearly a full second.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
