VIDEO: Tiana Mills Interview

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Two Carson-Newman track and field athletes and both men's and women's teams have been presented with academic accolades from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Association.

Tiana Mills and Tanner  Stepp were both  named to the USTFCCC's All-Academic teams for touting GPAs higher than 3.5 and qualifying for the national meet.

Meanwhile, both Carson-Newman's men's and women's teams were named all-academic teams for carrying collective GPAs higher than 3.00.  The Carson-Newman women had a 3.26 GPA while the men carried a 3.08.

"It's not always expected, but to have a 3.0 as a team and finish regionally ranked, it means we've got some dedicated people," head track and field coach David Needs said. "These are kids who look at this college experience as more of an academic experience than an athletic experience. It's really nice that they have their priorities like that."

On the men's side, only Queens and Wingate joined Carson-Newman as SAC schools receiving the team honor.  C-N had the highest team GPA of  the three.  On the women's side, C-N had the highest GPA among SAC school's beating out Wingate's 3.13.
