Track and field sweeps Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field athletes swept the Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors with Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) bringing home the accolade for the men and Tori Gaul (Salisbury, N.C.) for the women.

Kevin Snead's (Richmond, Va.) debut as an Eagle was one to remember as the junior college transfer from Eastern Michigan won his first career event after finishing the 60m run with a time of 6.83 seconds. The sprinter currently ranks sixth in Division II in the event and has provisionally qualified for indoor nations.

Tori Gaul (Salisbury, N.C.) was the second Carson-Newman athlete Saturday who also provisionally qualified for nations. The sophomore nabbed a 3.55m tally in the pole vault which was good enough for fourth-place. Gaul's 3.55m mark is a new Carson-Newman record.

The Eagles took the stage at ETSU's Mini-Dome for the David E. Walker Track and Field Kickoff Classic last weekend as Division II's lone representative. The other six Division I universities present that made up the seven-team meet were Western Carolina, Kennesaw State, Alabama State, ETSU, Georgia State and Appalachian State.

Snead and Gaul join teammate T.J. Davis (Chattanooga, Tenn.) as the trio of Carson-Newman track and field athletes who have provisionally qualified for nations in the opening two meets of the Eagles's indoor slate.
