ROCK HILL, S.C.—Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) was tabbed as the South Atlantic Conference's outdoor runner of the week following two first-place showings, a new Carson-Newman record and a provisional qualification at the Power Sox Invitational on March 19 the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Snead, who wrapped up his 2016 indoor campaign with an All-American showing of 6.81 seconds in the men's 60 meter dash, provisionally qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the men's 100 meter dash after concluding the sprint in 10.56 seconds for a first-place showing.
The junior also tabbed a first-place mark in the men's 200 meter dash—running the event in 21.51 seconds—and broke a 40-year old Carson-Newman record in the event.
Previously set by Ron McGee on April 17, 1976, Snead's mark last weekend at the Power Sox Invitational resets the record that could potential stand for another 40 years.
Throughout Carson-Newman's indoor campaign, Snead's personal-best time of 6.77 seconds in the 60 meter dash paved the way for the junior to reach the fourth-ranked position in Division II for the event.
The sprinter was also the first automatic qualifier for Carson-Newman in the program's history this past season for both the indoor and outdoor campaigns.
Wednesday's SAC Outdoor Runner of the Week honor was the first of Snead's career.
Snead, along with the rest of the Carson-Newman track and field team will jump back into competition this weekend on March 26 at the Shorter Invitational.
