Western Carolina Invitational Meet Information
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - With the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships one week away, Carson-Newman Track & Field will split athletes between three different events this weekend.
Ross Ensley (Thrower), Josh Finchum (Pole Vault), Kathie O'Neill (Distance), and Amy Zadroga (Pole Vault) will head to the Western Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 from the Catamount Athletic Complex. C-N returns to Cullowhee, N.C. for the second-straight year where they will compete against Division I programs including the Southern Conference Champion Catamounts.
"We looked at it as a possibility of needing another meet because of the weather," Coach David Needs said. "It's good preparation for the championships next week. We felt like it was best served to scale back what we were doing. We also felt that it's better for our athletes to have a week on and a week off basis to recoup their bodies and they've been at the most effective with that schedule."
Luke Greer is headed to the Bucknell University on Saturday, April 13 in the Bucknell Tune-Up for the Bison Outdoor Classic at the Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium. The Northhampton, England product will compete in the 5000-meter run which is slated for 9:30 p.m. Live stats for the meet can be found here.
Devon Moore will be the only Division II athlete to compete this weekend in the 200-meter dash at the 52nd Tennessee Relays from the Tom Black Track at Laporte Stadium. The live stream on Friday, April 12th is available on ESPN here.
"For Luke, it's a fast race and we are still looking to improve and get him into NCAA in two events," Coach Needs said. "Devon has run fast times and it caught notice of UT. He's in the premiere race under the lights in the fastest heat. He has a chance to go surprise some people and its a credit to him with his performances. His talent is unbelievable and the sky is the limit for him."
Division I program slated to take place in the event include athletes from Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Cincinnati, Kentuck, Auburn, among others.
