BELMONT, N.C. -- The Carson-Newman cross country teams had
strong showings on Saturday morning in the Belmont Abbey
Invitational on the campus of Belmont Abbey College.
The Lady Eagles claimed second place with a score of 38, which was
just two points behind first place Converse. In the men's
competition, the Eagles placed second with a score of 48. Catawba
won the men's meet by placing four runners in the top 10, including
three in the top five, and finishing with a score of 41.
"The ladies and men got a little momentum going with second place
team performances in both races," C-N head coach Whitney Lee said.
"We weren't completely clicking on all cylinders but we had our
best race of the season."
Lady Eagle freshman Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) turned in the
best performance of her young career as she finished in first place
with a time of 19:49.
"Brooke gave a great effort in getting her first collegiate win,"
Lee said. "This experience will create a new confidence in her
racing."
Meredith Nix (Walhalla, S.C.) claimed seventh place for the Lady
Eagles with a time of 20:39, while Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.)
finished in eighth with a time of 20:56.
Melissa Ford (Richmond, Va.) (10th), Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro,
Tenn.) (12th), Lauren Henry (Greeneville, Tenn.) (14th) and Audra
Jordan (Royston, Ga.) (20th) also had strong performances for the
Lady Eagles.
Junior Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) paced the Eagles with a
third place finish by turning in a time of 29:11. Kody Pierson
(Middletown, Ohio) grabbed sixth place with a time of 30:24, while
Wyatt Miles (Long Island, Va.) finished 10th with a time of
31:20.
Kent Pierson (Middletown, Ohio) (12th) and Justin Browning
(Madisonville, Tenn.) (17th) also contributed to the Eagles'
success on Saturday.
Catawba's Christian Crifasi won the men's event with a time of
28:09.
The C-N cross country teams return to action on Oct. 17 in the USC
Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
