SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Carson-Newman men’s and
women’s cross country teams participated in their final tune
up before the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday
morning in the USC Upstate Invitational.
The Lady Eagles claimed sixth place overall and were first among
non-Division I schools, while the Eagles finished in eighth place
in the meet, which was held at the Milliken Research Center.
Freshman Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) paced the Lady Eagles with
a 36th place finish. Earhart completed the 5K course in a time of
20:30. Fellow freshman Meredith Nix (Walhalla, S.C.) finished close
behind Earhart in 37th place with a time of 20:32.
Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.) (20:58) crossed the finish line in
43rd place, while Melissa Ford (Richmond, Va.) (21:20) and Cara
Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) (21:21) finished 52nd and 53rd,
respectively. Tiffany Winchell (White Pine, Tenn.) (21:35), Lauren
Henry (Greeneville, Tenn.) (22:11) and Rachel Logemann (St.
Petersburg, Fla.) (22:39) rounded out the race for the Lady
Eagles.
Junior Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Eagles with a 29th
place finish. Madden completed the 8K race in a time of 28:27. Kody
Pierson (Middleton, Ohio) claimed 46th place with a time of 29:48,
while Wyatt Miles (Long Island, Va.) turned in a time of 29:57 to
finish 49th.
Kent Pierson (Middleton, Ohio) placed 53rd with a time of 30:43,
while Justin Browning (Madisonville, Tenn.) completed the course in
a time of 32:01 for 62nd place.
The C-N cross country teams return to action next Saturday in the
SAC Championship at Southside Park in Hickory, N.C. The meet is
scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
