Carson-Newman Cross Country Teams Receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Carson-Newman cross country teams have earned several academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The C-N women's team garnered All-Academic honors for the 2009-10 season, while Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.), Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) received individual All-Academic accolades.

The Lady Eagles finished the year with a team GPA 3.40, which was second among regional schools and the highest among South Atlantic Conference programs.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and have placed in the top 30 percent of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50 percent of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
