Eagles have strong showing in Victor Ashe Fall Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman cross country team put on an impressive showing in its season debut Saturday morning, as both the men and women picked up top three finishes in the Victor Ashe Fall Classic.

The Victor Ashe Fall Classic welcomed seven teams from three different states and featured a five-kilometer running course.

Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) paced the third place finishing men with a first place finish of his own. The sophomore ran a time of 16:24.7 to pick up his second career win. Priscah Jemeli (Eldoret, Kenya) placed fourth with a time of 21:11.5 for the second-place finishing women.

"We competed well and that was our goal," coach Tony Parrilla said following the meet. "Now, I believe we are learning to pack run and challenge ourselves individually at the end."

On the men's side, Jose Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) ended with a ninth place finish, scoring a time of 17:27.1. Anthony Jackson and Nick Guerra (Richardson, Texas) also had top-20 finishes. Hannah Green (Talbott, Tenn.) finished eighth overall on the day, scoring a time of 21:47.2. A total of total of seven Carson-Newman runners finished in the top-20 on the women's side.
