Strayer presented first-team all SAC honors

WINGATE, N.C. - Following her fifth-place finish at the South Atlantic Conference Championship, sophomore Rachel Strayer (Murfreesboro, TN) was named to the conference's first team.

Strayer was able to impress throughout the season despite having to deal with injuries throughout the year which caused her to miss the Wingate Invitational on Sept. 21st.

"I think it shows her commitment to the sport and her desire to want to achieve," Carson-Newman coach Luke Greer said. "She is very talented but talent isn't enough. She works incredibly hard and gets her reward with this accolade."

The second-year runner was able to improve upon a magnificent freshman season that saw her win the SAC Freshman of the Year award.

Strayer will have a chance to improve upon her campaign at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 9th and based on her performance there may even be invited to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21st.

"It's a confidence booster in the fact that she was so close to the other top girls in the conference," Greer said. "She now knows what she must do to get herself to nationals and I'm excited for the regional race."
