Armstrong named SAC Pitcher of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior RHP Chris Armstrong (Blaine, Tenn.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of Week, announced by the SAC office on Tuesday morning.

Armstrong's strong pitching keyed Carson-Newman to a series-opening victory against fifth-ranked USC Aiken on Friday, as the Eagles won 8-0.

Armstrong tossed six and a third scoreless innings against the Pacers, allowing only three hits while walking two batters and striking out for to earn his first victory of the season.

Armstrong is now 1-1 this season with a 2.53 ERA with eight strikeouts in 10 and two-thirds innings on the mound in the 2013 season.

This is the first SAC weekly award for the Carson-Newman baseball program in the 2013 season.

While Armstrong took home SAC Pitcher of the Week honors, Catawba first baseman Chris Dula was named the SAC Player of the Week. He hit .500 during the week with three home runs for the Indians.

Carson-Newman will face no. 7 Lander on Tuesday and Division III Maryville College on Wednesday at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. On Tuesday, the Eagles will send junior RHP Dustin Dunagan (0-0, 4.50 ERA) to the mound against Lander.
