JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (13-18, 9-9 South Atlantic Conference) will try to snap a school record 11-game losing streak Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Pfeiffer (12-19, 7-6 Conference Carolinas).
The Falcons are coming off a season best 16-run, 21-hit performance in a 16-9 Conference Carolinas win over North Greenville Saturday. The Crusaders did take that series from PU 2-1.
Meanwhile, the Eagles were swept by no. 17 Catawba over the weekend.
Pfeiffer's Jon Gray is tied for the national lead in doubles with 17. His .390 batting average leads PU at the plate. Gray and Jacob Yates are the only Falcons who bat better than .300.
Carson-Newman continues to be led at the dish by Bo Ausmus (Jefferson City, Tenn.), who hits .349.
The Eagles have done a superb job of advancing runners through small ball tactics. Carson-Newman ranks sixth nationally in sacrifice bunts with 30 and 27th nationally in sacrifice flies with 12.
However, in spite of the sacrifice hit success, the Eagles are hitting .255 with runners on base and .189 with the bases loaded.
Carson-Newman has success advancing runner though nearly 50 percent of the time.
