Seven-run second powers Orange to 9-2 victory
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – In the final game of the Orange and Blue World Series, the Orange team scored seven runs in the second inning to dominate the Blue squad 9-2 Tuesday night at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

The Orange side started the scoring in the bottom of the first frame as freshman first basemen Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.) looped a double to the gap in left-centerfield to plate sophomore second basemen Joey Selitto.
In the top of the second inning, the Blue team took the lead as freshman infielder Ryan Lingerfelt (Johnson City, Tenn.) and freshman outfielder Ben Cramer (Andover, N.J.) scored on an error and fielder's choice respectively.
The Orange team sent 13 men to the plate in a seven-run stanza that featured three hit batters, a walk and an error. The big blow was provided by senior catcher J.D. Cowart who hit a ball off the fence in left field to bring home three runs. Redshirt freshman outfielder Patton Grooms (Whitwell, Tenn.) capped the scoring with an RBI double to the left field corner and make it an 8-2 contest.
Grooms added to the Orange led with a frozen rope off of the fence in left field to bring home Rotelli and make it 9-2.
The Orange offense was led by Grooms who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of doubles as the Orange squad cranked out ten hits.
The Blue team mustered just three hits in the contest as senior outfielder Cody Fox (Seymour, Tenn.) pitched the seventh inning to close it out.
Junior southpaw Vince Apicella (Dillsburg, Pa.) worked 3.1 scoreless innings giving up one hit with seven strikeouts for the Blue team.
Cowart and senior shortstop Bryan Everhart (Greeneville, Tenn.) were named the MVPs for the series.
