JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Blue team squeaked out a 3-2 victory in game two of the Orange and Blue world series, after Trevor Lee delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
On the first pitch of the game, Eric Lynch put the orange team on the board with a solo home run to left. The Blue squad would answer in the bottom half of the second as catcher Zach Gentry hit an Oppo Taco to right-center.
The score would remain even until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Hunter Wood of the Blue team laced a single to right that went under the glove of rightfielder Konnor Ambrose. After the two-base error, Brandon Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Wood and give the Blue team a 2-1 lead, their first of the series.
The Orange team answered in the top of the sixth as Paul Kirby hit a solo shot to center.
That 2-2 score would remain until the 10th. The orange bullpen of Austin Conner, Tyler Douglas and Austin Addams combined to throw four consecutive scoreless frames.
In the bottom of the 10th, Seth Hickman led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Pinch-hitter Hal Bishop walked, and Ian Pung laid down a bunt to laid the bases when first base was not covered in time by the Orange team.
With bases loaded and no outs, catcher Greg Jones picked Hickman off of 3rd to momentarily quiet the Blue team. Now with one out, on a 2-1 count, Trevor Lee grounded a ball through the infield and into left field. On a close play at the plate, Hal Bishop was able to slide in safely to end the thriller.
Ryan Victory was credited with the win after three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Austin Adams takes the loss for the Orange squad.
Austin Kearney added two more hits in game two for the Orange Squad. Hunter Wood had two this for the Blue team, one of them being a double.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow as Ranuel Perez gets the nod for the Blue team. Grant Rabbitts will be on the hill as Perez's counterpart. The game time is set for 2pm with Eric Cain providing the audio broadcast by visiting cneagles.com/live for the contest.
