Eberle, Harris garner Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's Ryan Eberle and women's tennis' Ali Harris have been named the Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Eberle tossed a complete game for the second time this season against Coker on Saturday tossing seven innings giving up one earned run on five hits and four walks with a career-high eight strikeouts to improve his record to 5-2.

The Eagles picked up a win with Eberle getting the start for the fourth time in the last five tries. The righty ranks fifth in the South Atlantic Conference in wins with five and seventh in the league with 43 strikeouts on the year. The junior has picked off five base runners in 2016 as he continues to chase the single-season mark of 10 set by Matt Ward in 1998.

Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) recorded a 4-0 slate on the week which enabled Carson-Newman to pick up wins against North Greeneville (3/22) and Anderson (3/25).

Competing at the top of the Eagles' lineup, Harris picked up a swift 6-1, 6-0 win over North Greenville to go along with an 8-2 win over the Crusaders in doubles play after teaming up with Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.).

Harris then won by default in singles play against the Trojans before picking up another 8-2 victory in doubles alongside Sanderson.

The freshman has competed at the top of Carson-Newman's lineup in singles play all season and has a 7-4 record to date.
