Batson, Beach Volleyball duo bring in Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's Dustin Batson and the Beach Volleyball duo of Ally King and Katie Will have been named the Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Batson picked up a pair of wins at Tusculum becoming the first pitcher to win two games in a SAC series since Daniel Sharp won twice on Feb. 7-8, 2014 against Brevard.

In the opening game of the series, the right-hander worked 3.2 scoreless innings of relief in a 4-2 12-inning win for the Eagles as he allowed three hits and struck out a pair while stranding five runners. In the series finale, the senior went six innings, striking out four while allowing five earned runs on six hits and five walks. Overall, Batson threw 171 pitches in a two-day span.

Katie Will (Clearwater, Fla.) and Ally King (Cincinnati, Ohio) snagged Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year after completing the Stevenson Sand Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

Carson-Newman beach volleyball's final tournament of the season witnessed it's No.  1 pairing of Will and King go undefeated on the weekend needing only one match to be decided in three sets.

The duo began the tournament Saturday afternoon with a dominating 21-3, 21-4 win against Morgan State's Dinah Jones and Haley McClure. The pairing then took down Jamie Jehne and Abby Cash from Lincoln Memorial, 21-10, 17-21 and 15-12 later in the day.

Sunday's action resumed with a highly-contested 27-25, 22-20 win over Stevenson's Kristen Brooks and Samantha Parillo and then the two capped off the tournament with another 21-15, 21-12 win over the top-Beaver pairing in the second match of the twin-billing.

Carson-Newman ended the season with an 11-12 record and were paced by King and Will for the entirety of the season as the duo produced an 11-10 recording competing in both the top-sots of the lineup on the year.
