JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Blue team collected their first win of the 2017 Blue v Orange Fall World Series on Sunday afternoon in a 12-3 final at Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
Despite dropping the first three games, the Blue team looked energized and ready to jump out to a quick start in game 4, and they did just that.
Leadoff hitter Wilfredo Acevedo used his speed for a leadoff double in the top of the first inning. The Blue team would then load the bases with one-out after a walk and a hit by pitch by Orange starter Austin Connor. Connor attempted to pick off Acevedo at third base but would throw the ball down the left field line, scoring two runners.
After right fielder Dom Leo worked the second base on balls of the inning, Leo would force an errant throw by the orange infielders, scoring Cade Snapp for the third run and final run of the inning.
Team Orange collected one run in the bottom of the first inning on a wild pitch by Blue starter Kyle Cagle, scoring John Sharpe who doubled earlier in the frame.
In the top of the second inning, Cade Snapp came up with a clutch 2-out double down the left field line clearing the bases, pushing the lead to 6-1.
The runs continued to pile on in the third inning as a fielders choice, an error, a two-RBI single by Travis Reaves, and a wild pitch collected five more runs for the Blue team.
A small rally ensued for the Orange in the bottom of the seventh. Three straight hits off of Jonathan Jacks ended with a single by Will Findley into right center allowed Cal Smith to cross the plate. Soon after, Matt Bradley hit a single that was picked up by Snapp into a fielder's choice that scored Joe Selitto, moving two runners into scoring position.
Tyler Hicks entered in the bottom of the frame to close the game for the Blue, leading the charge with a double play and a strikeout.
Nick Adkins entered on the mound for Roberts' Blue squad in the sixth and had an impressive outing. The sophomore threw two innings, allowing one hit while striking out five of the seven batters he faced.
Ryan Victory collected the first win of the series for the Blue team tossing 4.0 innings with no runs allowed through five hits with two strikeouts.
Game five is slated to be at Jefferson County High School on Tuesday evening with first pitch coming at 6:00 p.m.
