JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – To conclude its annual fall camp, Carson-Newman hosts its Blue versus Orange World Series this weekend in a best-of-five intrasquad event starting Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside of the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Assistant coaches Joe Selitto (Blue) and Tyler Miller (Orange) will mentor the rosters for the weekend. Game two of the series starts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Game three is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The final two affairs are tentatively pinned for Monday and Tuesday at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday morning inside of the baseball offices, a draft was held with Miller taking catcher Ethan Goforth (Blacksburg, Va.) was the first overall pick for the second-straight season. To start off the infielders, he nabbed John Sharpe (Franklin, Tenn.).

Selitto followed up by taking Micah Genter (Jasper, Tenn.) and Alan Silva (Sevierville, Tenn.) while picking up Tyler Thompson (Gallatin, Tenn.) and Brendan Campbell (Yardley, Pa.).

The pitching matchup for game one will be Kyle Cagle (Fairview, N.C.) for the Orange team against Ryan Lloyd (Morristown, Tenn.). The top starter returning for the Eagles, Matt Bradley (Talbott, Tenn.) will get the ball for Selitto in game two against Blake Stansberry (Knoville, Tenn.).

In 2017, the Orange squad won four out of the five games against Blue team outscoring the Blue group 38-17 winning the first game of the series to coast to a win. Goforth and Selitto were picked as the MVPs of the series.

American League rules with a designated hitter will be employed for games one, three and five as the Blue team will be the home club while National League rules will be used for games two and four.

The winner of the series earns a championship shirt while the losing team has to do field work and paint the facilities.

The team that scores the most total runs over the course of the five contests gets a meal at Gondolier, a spot for traditional Italian fare, plus Greek specialties & oven-baked sandwiches.

The Eagle Sports Network will provide the audio call of at least the first two games on cneagles.com/live as fans are encouraged to listen to the broadcast team over the weekend. Recaps of each game will be posted on cneagles.com following play each day.
