ROCK HILL, S.C. – After leading Carson-Newman to a 3-1 week, sophomore outfielder Tyler Thompson was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career announced by the league Tuesday.
It is the second straight season that C-N produces the first weekly honor from the league after Brett Langhorne opened his senior season with the plaudit 364 days ago.
The Gallatin, Tenn. native shredded Limestone pitching going 8-for-13 at the plate drawing two walks while pounding a home run, two doubles and a triple and swiping a pair of bags over the four-game series. He capitalized on his chances going 4-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
After a modest 1-for-5 day to begin the weekend, he piled up multi-hit contests in each of the next three. In a 19-7 rout of the Saints in game two of the series, he went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.

He wrapped up the weekend by registering a 2-for-3 day with a long ball, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to seal the best start to a year since 2014.
Thompson ranks second in the league in RBIs, hits and stolen bases, third in runs scored and on-base percentage, fourth in batting average.
On the weekend, Carson-Newman scored 36 runs, its most in the first four contests of a campaign since scoring 40 in 2009. It is seven more runs scored than the next closest club, Anderson. The Eagles also lead the conference in hits, home runs, RBIs, walks and stolen bases.
