Brooks, Burtsrom bring home Bojangles’ Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Carson Brooks (Knoxville, Tenn.) and women's basketball's Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Carson Brooks turned in a record-setting weekend for the Carson-Newman men's basketball program. Brooks connected on all 12 shots that he attempted in the Eagles' 74-72 loss Friday night to Barton.  That set a SAC and school record for most field goal attempts without a miss.

Brooks averaged 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Eagles over the week.  He's shooting a paltry 77 percent from the field through two games.

Burstrom led the Lady Eagles to a 2-0 record in their first weekend of regular season action. The junior guard buried a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining to give her team a 68-67 victory over USC Aiken.

Burstrom scored 16 points while dishing out four assists in the contest. The Maryville, Tenn. native followed that effort with 15 points including a clutch three-pointer with 3:37to play to give Carson-Newman the lead for the good in a 66-57 win over Lander on Sunday afternoon.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
