Johnson, Kyle garner Bojangles Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Jared Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) and women's basketball's Whitney Kyle (Jefferson City, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Jared Johnson got his week started by resetting a career high for three pointers made in a game. The senior from Springfield, Mass. drained five of his 10 attempts Wednesday in the Eagles' 14-point comeback win over Lenoir-Rhyne.  Johnson scored 19 points and added four rebounds.

He again would lead C-N in scoring in Saturday's 24-point blowout of Tennessee Wesleyan. Johnson scored 16 points – nine of which came at the charity stripe.

In a 57-52 victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears last Wednesday, senior forward Whitney Kyle notched her first career double-double by matching a career-high of 15 points and setting a new career standard with 11 rebounds. Kyle was 5-for-8 from the floor and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line while chipping in two assists and two steals. As the primary defender on reigning SAC Player of the Year Jazmine Charles, Kyle held Charles to 12 points on 5 of 19 shooting.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
