Williams, McLaughlin repeat as Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Sawyer Williams (Owenton, Ky.) and women's basketball's Jai Jai McLaughlin (Knoxville, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the second week in a row.

Williams started his week by slogging through foul trouble in a win at Mars Hill where he still managed to finish with eight points and four rebounds.  However, he was at his best Saturday in a loss to Queens.

Williams reset his season high with 20 points and four rebounds.  He was a high highly efficient 7-for-10 from the field and he reset his season highs for free throws by sinking six-of-seven from the charity stripe.

McLaughlin moved into ninth place on the program's all-time assist list on Saturday against Queens as the junior guard brought her career total to 292. In a comeback win over Mars Hill on Wednesday, McLaughlin had eight points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals. The Knoxville native led the team in points on Saturday against Queens as she poured in 13 points to go along with four assists, three steals and two rebounds.
