JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman (7-10, 5-6 South Atlantic Conference) is on the road to South Carolina to face the Newberry Wolves (13-4, 17-4 SAC) in the programs' 45th meeting Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Eleazer Arena.
C-N leads the all-time series 26-18. Carson-Newman has won four straight in the series against the Wolves - who remain in second place in league play.
The Eagles soared past the Wolves 92-78 on the road in their last meeting with a second half surge, holding Newberry to just 29 percent shooting and 12 minutes without a field goal. It was Carson-Newman's second win against Newberry in the 2013-2014 season.
Newberry is on a three-game losing streak, last falling 90-74 to Coker. Losing to the Eagles would give the Wolves their longest losing streak since the 2012-2013 season. At the same time Carson-Newman is looking to avoid losing three straight games fo the first time since the 2011-12 season.
Demarkus Smith leads the Wolves in scoring with 16 points per game. He had 15 points in Newberry's loss to Coker.
Xavier Holmes added 16 points in the effort, grabbing three rebounds.
Carson-Newman is coming off a heartbreaking 91-90 loss at home to Tusculum. The Eagles rallied from an eight-point deficit with 88 seconds remaining.
Carson Brooks (Knoxville, Tenn.) was one of four double-digit scorers against Tusculum, earning his second career double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Sawyer Williams (Owenton, Ky.) contributed 16 points. He was a career best 10-of-12 from the line. Williams had six rebounds.
Jared Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) had 16 points in the game with Mason Bates (Cookeville, Tenn.) adding 15 of his own to match his career high.
Defense has been a recent issue for the Eagles. The Eagles allowed a season high 91 points against Tusculum - the most they've given up since February of 2012.
On average Newberry forces about 20 turnovers per game, turning it over themselves about 15 times per game.
