ROCK HILL, S.C. – After seizing back-to-back double doubles, Carson-Newman men's basketball forward Carson Brooks (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Brooks plopped down 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-90 loss to Tusculum Wednesday night before throwing in 25 points and snatching 11 rebounds in the Eagles' two-overtime 101-92 win over Newberry Saturday.

"We're very happy for Carson," head coach Chuck Benson said. "I made the comment after we beat Newberry that he'd had back-to-back individual performances but that he probably couldn't get player of the week because we'd lost to Tusculum.

"He replied that he was just happy to get that win and that any honors weren't on his mind.  For him to get that honor speaks well of his performance.  I couldn't be happier for him and Sawyer (Williams) to get that kind of attention this year."

Brooks is Carson-Newman's second SAC Player of the Week honoree this season.  Sawyer Williams (Owenton, Ky,) was named player of the week after the Eagles' win to start the New Year over Wingate.

Brooks becomes the first player in a Carson-Newman jersey with back-to-back double doubles since Josh Rogers (Bristol, United Kingdom) accomplished the feat earlier this season against Clayton State and Catawba.

"This means a lot," Brooks said. "My coaches and teammates put me in a position to dominate so the credit goes to them. Coach Benson and Williams also really challenged me to play every shot like it was a miss and that helped me really get on the glass."

The West High graduate had a career high five offensive rebounds in the Eagles' win over Newberry.  Brooks also became the first player since Antoine Davis and Ish Sanders last season to put together back-to-back 20-point efforts.

Brooks and the rest of the Eagles return to action Wednesday evening at 8 against Anderson inside Holt Fieldhouse. Pregame coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 7:45 with the Appalachian Electric Cooperative Countdown to Tipoff on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
