It’s a Brooks sweep for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Carson Brooks (Knoxville, Tenn.) and women's basketball's Kailyn Brooks (Lafayette, Tenn.), no relation, have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Brooks plopped down 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-90 loss to Tusculum Wednesday night before throwing in 25 points and snatching 11 rebounds in the Eagles' two-overtime 101-92 win over Newberry Saturday.

Brooks is Carson-Newman's second SAC Player of the Week honoree this season.  Sawyer Williams (Owenton, Ky,) was named player of the week after the Eagles' win to start the New Year over Wingate.

Brooks becomes the first player in a Carson-Newman jersey with back-to-back double doubles since Josh Rogers (Bristol, United Kingdom) accomplished the feat earlier this season against Clayton State and Catawba.

The West High graduate had a career high five offensive rebounds in the Eagles' win over Newberry.  Brooks also became the first player since Antoine Davis and Ish Sanders last season to put together back-to-back 20-point efforts.

Kailyn Brooks reset her career-high to 24 points in a win over Tusculum on Wednesday, her previous was 17. The guard set a career-high with nine made field goals against Tusculum. Her four made three-pointers in each contest matched a career-high. Brooks scored 14 points in the second half at Newberry while tying a career-high with six boards at Newberry.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
