Clark, Lockett tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and softball's Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Charles Clark was named South Atlantic Conference tournament MVP after guiding Carson-Newman to its third ever SAC tournament championship with a 63-48 win over top-seeded and third-ranked LMU Sunday.

Clark came within nine points of the total tournament scoring record held by Anderson's Denzail Jones. Clark had 73 points for the tournament.

He reset his career high with 33 points in the semifinals in the Eagles' 82-72 win over Newberry.  He also had career marks for made field goals and attempts that day, going 10-for-16 from the field.  Clark was 10-for-13 at the charity stripe, both the free throws made and attempted matched career highs.

Clark also led C-N with 23 points in the title game against LMU.

Bre Lockett continues to obliterate the fluorescent spear for the Eagles. Lockett rides an 11-game hitting streak for the Eagles. She has multiple hits for Carson-Newman in her last nine contests.

Lockett went yard against King, doubled and drove in four runs as well against the Tornado. She went 9-for-15 at the plate last week for the Eagles.

Lockett slugged .867 for the week and reached base 60 percent of the time.  Her 11-game hit streak is tied with Sarah Howard for the longest streak of the season for the Eagles.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
