Clark, Brooks nab Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's basketball's Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and women's basketball's Kailyn Brooks (Lafayette, Tenn.) have been named the Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athlete of the Week.

Clark guided the Eagles to a 67-59 win at Anderson Thursday night before helping propel C-N from a 21-point deficit to down Newberry 91-89 Sunday.

Clark averaged 26.5 points and 3.5 steals for the week.

The sophomore began his week with 23 points on 56 percent shooting in the win over Anderson.  He also drained a trio of triples in the win.

Clark then followed that up with his third career 30-point game against Newberry.  Of those 30 points, 22 came in the second half and 11 in the final 6:36 as the Eagles stormed back from the 21-point deficit to collect the two-point win at the buzzer thanks to Zack Pangallo's (Newport, Ky.) game-winning three.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn.-native added in eight boards, five assists and four steals against the Wolves.

Clark has scored 20 points in three straight games now.  His two 20-point efforts this week give him 12 for the season and 20 for his career.

He also earned SAC player of the week honors for his efforts.

Brooks has scored in double figures in seven straight games and 15 times in 18 contests on the year. At 11th-ranked Anderson on Thursday evening, the junior scored 11 points and added five rebounds in 34 minutes of action to help the Lady Eagles earn their first road win over a ranked team since Dec. 12, 2009 when C-N topped No. 8 Clayton State.

The Lafayette, Tenn. native scored a career-high 25 points while making 10 of 17 from the floor and 5 of 9 from long range on Sunday at Newberry. Overall this season, Brooks is averaging 14.1 points per game and leads the South Atlantic Conference with 48 made three-pointers on the year.
