Nine so fine, Clark wins another SAC Player of the Week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the ninth time in his illustrious career, Carson-Newman senior guard Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference's AstroTurf Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Clark matches Tusculum's Kyle Moore for the most player of the week honors for a career.  Moore notched his nine in three years.

"I'm just trying to go out every day and do my best," Clark said. "I know that my games and practices are dwindling down here at Carson-Newman.  I'm just trying to go out with my team and play as hard as I can."

This honor is Clark's third player of the week plaudit this season from the league office.  He gets it by going past the 30-point mark for back-to-back games for the second time in his career.

Clark got his week started with his first career victory over Johnson C. Smith and a 31-point, five-rebound, four-assist effort against the Golden Bulls.

He kept the good times rolling inside Holt Fieldhouse Saturday against Catawba by dropping 30.  He also added in four assists, four rebounds and three steals against Catawba College's Catawba Indians in the Eagles' 101-75 victory.

The senior was mind-numbingly efficient for the week as well. He knocked down 17 of his 30 shots and 10 of his 19 three-point attempts.  Clark bypassed the 2,000-point mark for his career in the win over the Indians.

The two 30-point games represent the 11th and 12th such efforts of his career.

Clark and the rest of the Eagles are in action Wednesday at 8 p.m. at rival Tusculum.  Pregame coverage begins at 7:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
