Jones ensnares AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week

VIDEO: Shaun Jones Interview

Shaun Jones (Lawrenceville, Ga.) notched his first career accolade after producing back-to-back double-doubles for the Eagles last week.

He and Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) become the first teammates to earn back-to-back player of the week honors since Chris Perry and Luquon Choice won the awards consecutively last year on Jan. 30 and Feb 6.

"It's definitely something to be excited about, especially it being my first one," Jones said. "However, I don't want to be too excited about it because there's still a bunch of goals to be accomplished this year."

Clark has Carson-Newman's other three SAC Player of the Week plaudits this season.

Jones earns his honor after posting his 15th and 16th career double-doubles, extending his school record for that stat.

Jones got his week started by resetting his career high for scoring with a 27-point outburst at Tusculum.  It was his fifth career 20-point game and the first of his senior season.

The Lawrenceville, Ga.-native went 11-for-16 from the field against the Pioneers while snagging a season-high 13 boards.

Jones then followed that performance up with an 18-point, 11-rebound effort against Wingate.

He, and the rest of the No. 18 Eagles, will be in action Wednesday night against No. 3 Lincoln Memorial inside Holt Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. Pregame coverage on the Eagle Sports Network starts at 7:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
