TSWA touts Teichmann as state player of the week

VIDEO: Grant Teichmann Interview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After receiving SAC Player of the Week honors Monday, Carson-Newman senior guard Grant Teichmann (Brentwood, Tenn.) has followed that up with Tennessee Sportswriters Association State Player of the Week honors, the organization announced Wednesday morning.

"It's nice to get recognized," Teichmann said, "but more so than anything, I think it's a team thing. I just have to give a shoutout to my teammates and coaches for putting me in a good position to succeed.

"Obviously I'm happy to get some recognition but I just kind of want to build on top of that and keep moving forward."

Teichmann averaged 21 points, with seven rebounds, and 7.5 assists for the week. He shot 78.9 percent from the field, 77.8 percent from beyond the arc and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

The Brentwood, Tenn. native produced back-to-back double-figure scoring performances this week, starting with a double-double in a win over Lees-McRae. His 16 points and career-high 11 assists made him the third Eagle in the last 12 years to notch a double-double in such fashion.

He was 6-of-7 from the field in the win while going 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

Teichmann followed that outing with a 26-point outburst at King, marking a career-high in scoring along with his third-straight double-digit day this season.

In the 87-86 victory over the Tornado, the senior guard went 9-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

For the year, Teichmann has been stupid good en route to his 17.3 point per game average.  He's got an absolutely absurd slash line of 70.6 percent shooting, 55.6 percent three point shooting and 100 percent free throw shooting. Teichmann is one of 40 players in the country who has yet to miss a free throw.  Oh, and Techmann also has 7.5 boards per game and 6.5 assists per game.

Teichmann and the rest of the Eagles look to stay on their winning ways as Tennessee Wesley comes to town on Wednesday night. That contest is set to tip-off at 6 p.m. from Holt Fieldhouse. Coverage for the game begins at 5:45 on the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live
