JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Two former Carson-Newman men's basketball players have made an impact in their respective professional leagues.
Former Carson-Newman forward Josh Rogers ('16) has signed a new contract with the Bristol Academy Flyers in England's top-level British Basketball League. While Carson-Newman's all-time leader in threes Ish Sanders guided Sunbury to a Big V Grand Title in Australia, earning his league's finals MVP honors.
Sanders averaged 23 points per game in a three-game series win over the Warrandyte Venom to help the Sunbury Jets to its first championship hardware in a decade.
This will be Rogers second year in the league. He spent last season with the London City Royals. In 23 BBL games he had 2.7ppg and 1.7rpg. Rogers helped the London City Royals make it to the league final.
Rogers finished his C-N career with 688 points and 518 rebounds. He started all 28 games of his senior season and finished the year shooting 60.2 percent from the field.
The 6-8 wingman's best game came in his junior year when he scored a career high 19 points in the NCAA tournament against No. 23 Montevallo. He tallied his top mark for boards against Clayton State as a junior when he ripped down 13.
Through his Carson-Newman career, the Eagles were 24-9 when Rogers hit double digits scoring. C-N was 39-13 when he had at least five rebounds.
Rogers had 10 double-doubles in his college career, including five in his final go-around in the Orange and Blue. This is Rogers third professional stop. He also played a year for Beer Sheva in Israel's top league.
Rogers and Sanders give Carson-Newman four active professionals, the third most in the Southeast Region. They join Grant Teichmann (Germany) and Charles Clark (Iceland and Brazil) among active players. Antoine Davis retired after playing in Germany and Canada.
