Freeze, Chavis headline 2012 Carson-Newman Coaches’ Clinic (Updated Speaking Roster)

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – University of Mississippi head coach Hugh Freeze and Louisiana State University defensive coordinator John Chavis will headline the 2012 Carson-Newman Football Coaches' Clinic.

The clinic, in its 23rd year, is Feb. 24-26, 2012 at the Pigeon Forge Hotel and Inn in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Freeze is the first-year head coach at Ole Miss. He was named head coach in December after leading Arkansas State to a 10-2 mark in 2011, winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship with a perfect 8-0 record in league play.

Chavis is the recipient of the 2011 Broyles National Assistant Coach of the Year after coaching an LSU defense that was ranked in the Top 3 nationally in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, and pass efficiency defense, The Tigers won the SEC title and reached the BCS Championship Game. He served as defensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee from 1995-2008, and was part of Volunteers' national championship in 1998.

Other speakers at the this year's clinic include longtime Air Force Academy head coach and College Football hall of Fame member, Fisher Deberry, and former Rice University and Duke University head coach Fred Goldsmith, who earned National Coach of the Year honors during his tenure at Rice.

The clinic also includes Mike Sheppard, wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Doug Malone, the offensive line coach for the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tigercats.

Rusty Bradley, head coach at Christian Academy of Knoxville, who led the Warriors to the 3A State Championship in 2011 is also scheduled as part of the clinic.

The clinic is scheduled to begin on Friday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. in Pigeon Forge. Both Freeze and Chavis are scheduled to speak on Friday night. All other sessions will be held on Saturday. 

Carson-Newman head coach Ken Sparks enters his 33rd season as Carson-Newman's head coach and has 299 career victories, which is 14th all-time.
