Day, Baker and Duncan end up on Daktronics All-Region Teams

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman center Kevin Day (Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.) and running back Brandon Baker (Miami, Fla.) landed on the Daktronics All-Super Region II first team, while kicker Curt Duncan (Morristown, Tenn.) ended up as a second team selection.

Day and Baker are both first team All-SAC selections and feature as a part of a potent Eagle rushing attack that averages 380 yards per game – the top figure in Division II.  Leading DII is one thing, it's another for only one other team to outrush C-N among all division.

FCS's Georgia Southern averages 391 yards/game, but no other team in Division I nor III comes close to Carson-Newman. The Eagles 50 rushing touchdowns are the most not only in Division II, but in all divisions. Mary Hardin-Baylor also has 50 rushing TDs, but in one more game than C-N.

Day will likely make his 46th consecutive start against Valdosta State, Saturday.

Baker has 1,313 yards on the ground to lead all C-N players.  The junior's 119 yards a game are the 18th most nationally.  He also found the end zone 12 times and averaged 8.2 yards a carry.

Duncan landed on the second team following a season where he contributed mightily to the SAC's top scoring offense and the nation's 14th best.  The junior kicker blasted two field goals from more than 50 yards out, including a school record 54-yarder against Tusculum.

While quarterback Brandon Haywood (Rockmart, Ga.) led the league in scoring average for any player with 8.4 points per game, it was Duncan who took home the scoring title for kickers with his eight points a contest.

The Eagles battle Valdosta State for a spot in the Division II semifinals Saturday at noon from Valdosta's Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.  Pregame coverage begins at 11 a.m. on the Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM) and online at cneagles.com.
