Eagles jump to 11 in AFCA Coaches’ Poll

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman moved up six spots to 11th in the second offering of the American Football Coaches' Association poll.  Only Shepherd jumped more spots than C-N in week two of the poll (25 to 17).

C-N was propelled to 11th by virtue of its 55-28 win over Wayne State coupled with losses by Winston-Salem State, Ashland, Shippensburg and New Haven.

The Eagles scored on seven of their first eight possessions against the Warriors.  The only time the Eagles didn't crack the end zone was because the first half expired.

Tailbacks Tyron Douglas (Clover, S.C.), Brandon Baker (Miami, Fla.) and Andy Hibbett (Corryton, Tenn.) all gained more than 70 yards as a part of a balanced offense that pushed for  576 yards of total offense.

De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) put up three touchdowns through the air to go along with the first 200-yard passing day by a C-N QB in four seasons.  His 357 pass efficiency rating was a C-N school record and the best mark among quarterbacks in week one in the FCS, FBS and Division II.
