Thomas ropes in second SAC offensive player of the week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman quarterback De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) is two-for-two on South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors when he passes for more than 200 yards.

Thomas tossed for a career high 231 yards on 15-of-22 passing in the Eagles' 47-26 win over North Greenville to earn the most recent honor. He also earned player of the week honors following a 213-yard passing performance against Wayne State.

Thomas becomes the first Carson-Newman quarterback with multiple 200-yard games to his name in a single season since Alex Good had three such games in 2007.

His 15 completions are the most by a quarterback under Ken Sparks in his 34-year career at Mossy Creek.  The 15 completions rank 11th all-time for a single game at C-N and are the most by a quarterback since Danny Sanders completed 17 passes against Lenoir-Rhyne in 1977.

The Milledgeville, Ga.-native found the endzone four times against the Crusaders – three times on the ground and once by air.  The three rushing touchdowns are a career high for Thomas.

Carson-Newman's southpaw signal caller is first in the SAC in rushing touchdowns with 12 and ranks third in yards per game with 83.  Thomas sits 27th in the nation in scoring with his nine points per game.

The Eagles return to action Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne in a clash between nationally ranked teams and two of the top three rushing offenses in the country.   Kickoff from Hickory is set for 2 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 1 p.m. on the Eagle Sports Network with the Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), 106.3 ESPN Radio The Zone (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
