Eagles vault to fourth in Super Region II rankings

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman football asserted itself into the Division II playoff picture by virtue of its 52-31 win over Newberry.  The Eagles have leapfrogged the Wolves and moved to fourth in this week's Super Region II standings.

If the playoffs started today, the Eagles would not only be in, they'd host Newberry in the four-five matchup.

Carson-Newman (8-2, 4-2 SAC) finishes the regular season Saturday at Wingate (4-5, 3-3 SAC)

The top six teams in the rankings on Sunday, Nov. 17, qualify for the NCAA Division II Playoffs, which begin Saturday, Nov. 23.

Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke are ranked first and second in the ranking, followed by North Alabama in third and the Eagles in fourth.

After Newberry in fifth are West Alabama in sixth, Tuskegee in seventh, Delta State in eighth, Miles in ninth and Lane in 10th.

Lenoir-Rhyne closes with Catawba, UNCP has a non-Division II game against Virginia Lynchburg and North Alabama travels to Tarleton State (ranked sixth in Super Region IV).

Newberry plays host to North Greenville, while West Alabama has Central State (Ohio) at home.
