C-N football alum Davis signs with Arena Football League’s Cleveland Gladiators

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman defensive back Oliver Davis has signed a contract to continue his playing career with the Arena Football League's Cleveland Gladiators.

Davis becomes just the second Eagle alum to enter the Arena Football League.  Carson-Newman has produced a South Atlantic conference best 47 pro players.  The Eagles have sent 39 players to the NFL, four to the Canadian Football league and two to the now-defunct USFL.

Davis finished his senior season with 40 tackles and a pick, which he snared in the Eagles' 2012 win over UNC Pembroke.  He was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference defensive back.

He picked off six passes in his career at Carson-Newman and had a whopping 22 pass breakups.  Davis finished his three seasons at Mossy Creek with 121 tackles, 81 of which were solo stops.

The Gladiators have made the playoffs five times in program history, won one conference title, but have never made it to the ArenaBowl.
