Davis signs contract with AFL’s Portland Thunder

PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Carson-Newman defensive back Oliver Davis has signed a contract with the Arena Football League's Portland Thunder.  Davis was formerly with the Cleveland Gladiators.

Davis isthe second Eagle alum to enter the Arena Football League.  Carson-Newman has produced a South Atlantic conference best 47 pro players.  The Eagles have sent 39 players to the NFL, four to the Canadian Football league and two to the now-defunct USFL.

Davis finished his senior season with 40 tackles and a pick, which he snared in the Eagles' 2012 win over UNC Pembroke.  He was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference defensive back. 

He picked off six passes in his career at Carson-Newman and had a whopping 22 pass breakups.  Davis finished his three seasons at Mossy Creek with 121 tackles, 81 of which were solo stops. 

The Thunder is in its third year of existence in the AFL. It went 5-13 in its first two seasons.
